The Centre for Youth Voice: Project Discovery Consultation Summary

ree

This report captures the first phase of developing the Centre for Youth Voice, a new national hub to strengthen youth participation across the sector. Through consultations with 64 young people and practitioners, it explored what support is most needed to embed youth voice in practice.

Key insights highlighted:

  • The need for accessible resources and training to build participation skills.

  • Gaps in research and evidence, especially youth-led and long-term studies.

  • A call for more inclusive storytelling, sharing both successes and challenges.

  • Barriers to networking and opportunities, particularly for young people outside major cities.

In response, the report sets out a co-created action plan including:

  • A Capacity Hub of free tools, templates, and training.

  • A Youth Voice Observatory to share research and evidence.

  • More inclusive and youth-friendly communications and networking platforms.

  • Stronger youth leadership in governance through young trustees and ambassadors.

The consultation lays the foundation for a youth-led, practitioner-informed Centre, designed to improve practice, amplify young people’s voices, and ensure participation is embedded in decision-making at every level.
